New COVID-19 Business Impact Support Program

With Tasmanian small businesses still adjusting to the  highly transmissible Omicron variant, the Tasmanian Government is making more funding available through the new COVID-19 Business Impact Support Program.

Guidelines will be available on 17 January 2022 and the program will open at 2pm on 19 January 2022. All of this information will be published on our Business Tasmania website.

The program will help those Tasmanian small businesses that have seen a reduction in business due to COVID-19 since mid-December 2021. The downturn may be caused by a loss of staff due to COVID-19 exposure that has affected the business’s ability to operate, or loss of business due to significantly lower than usual customer demand.

Funding of between $1 000 and $5 000 will be available to eligible businesses, depending on business size.

Support of up to $5 000 will also be available to business that experienced an unavoidable loss of perishable goods because they have had to close.

To be eligible businesses must:

  • be able to demonstrate a minimum of 30% reduction in turnover when comparing 15 December - 14 January 2022, with the same period in 2021,
  • have a COVID-19 Safety Plan
  • a completed risk assessment in place and, where required, a COVID-19 Case and Outbreak Management Plan, and
  • have been using the Check in Tas app.

The Premier also indicated that this is tranche one, and the need for further support will be reviewed in February. We will keep you updated on that review.
